West Bengal gets India's first green IT infrastructure
Kolkata, Sept 28 (UNI) West Bengal got India's first green IT infrastructure in 7,75,000 square feet IT park- "Technapolis" built at a cost of Rs 125 crore.
The IT park was the first in the country to achieve a gold certification under US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environment Design rating system, Rahul Saraf of Technopolis Phoenix Software Limited said here.
By virtue of being a green building and adopting energy efficient technology, Technopolis has been successful in saving up to 35.5 per cent energy consumption, Saraf said.
The energy efficiency would lead to indirect reduction in emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thereby making the project eligible to earn carbon credits, he said.
It would be first such project in the world to be registered under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as a clean development mechanism (CDM) project.
The project was inaugurated last evening by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the presence of state Urban Development Minister Ashoke Bhattacharya and IT Minister Debesh Das.
