Shiv Sena demands special legislature session to discuss Belgaum

Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Ramdas Kadam today demanded that the State Government convene a special legislature session to discuss the long standing boundary dispute with Karnataka.

He made this demand during a meeting with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at Mantralaya here this afternoon.

''The need of the hour is to express solidarity with the Marathi speaking people of Belgaum and a special legislature session is the only way Maharashtra can express solidarity with the people there,'' he added.

When pointed out that Mr Deshmukh has already rejected the demand stating that many unamimous resolutions have been passed earlier expressing solidarity with people of border areas, Mr Kadam said even if resolutions had been passed, the legislature session will indicate that the state is united behind the people in Belgaum and nearby areas.

''If the question is about expenditure of convening a special session, government wastes so much otherwise. Shiv Sena legislators will not take the allowances to attend the session,'' he said.
