Relief for only 30 per cent of Delhi's traders: BJP

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) The Government should immediately announce an amnesty scheme for traders in residential colonies facing the threat of closure of businesses because of the Apex Court's denial to provide them permanent relief from the municipal authorities' sealing and demolition drive, the BJP's Delhi unit said today.

The Supreme Court has provided relief only to 30 per cent of Delhi's traders by allowing the running of shops, of upto 20 sqm area, selling essential commodities in the lanes and bye-lanes, the party noted after an urgent meeting of office bearers and leaders at the party unit headquarters.

Even such traders would have to get themselves registered by the Government agency upto December 31, 2006. As many as 40,814 traders who had submitted affidavits in June 2006 shall have to submit a fresh affidavit by October 10, 2006 that they would wind up their business by October 31, 2006.

''Traders in A and B categories have not been given any relief.

Traders in unauthorised colonies will have to desert their business,'' the party stated.

State unit party chief Harsh Vardhan said the Centre should amend the Master Plan 2021 and implement it immediately in view of the court ruling.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena also asked the Government to bring an ordinance to provide relief to traders left out of the purview of today's Supreme Court ruling.
