Quake shakes Venezuela, Trinidad, no injuries -agency
CARACAS, Venezuela, Sep 29 (Reuters) A strong earthquake today hit Trinidad and Venezuela but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage to property, including to the South American country's oil installations, Gustavo Malave, head of Venezuela's seismological institute told local media.
The epicenter of the 6.1 magnitude quake was on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, which lies a few kilometers off the coast of Venezuela, according to the Venezuelan seismological institute.
The US Geological Survey's earthquake monitoring center said the quake hit at 9:08 am 1838 hrs IST at a depth of 62.6 km. Such a magnitude typically can cause considerable damage to poorly built structures, and slight to moderate damage in well built structures.
