Punjab Kisan Sabha plea against M O U with Reliance
Chandigarh, Sep 29 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices for October 31 to the Punjab government and other respondents on a writ petition filed in public interest by CPI-led Punjab Kisan Sabha seeking directions to quash the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the state and Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) for a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
While issuing notices on this writ petition, the court's division bench of Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar and Justice Surinder Singh Saron also deferred further hearing to October 31 on the petition filed by former Punjab ministers and Shiromani Akali Dal MLAs Capt Kanwaljit Singh, Satwant Kaur Sandhu and others on the same matter.
In addition to the legal plea taken in the previous petitions now before the bench, the petition has challenged the MOU on the ground that the Panchayat land has been given to the respondent company contrary to the mandatory provisions of Punjab village Common Lands (Regulation) Act, 1961.
