Polish, Chinese throwers shine, Neelam Jakhar creats new meet reco

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Neelam Jakhar created a new meet record in the junior section while Polish and Chinese throwers asserted their supermacy in the men and women sections respectively bagging two Gold meadls each on the opening day of the two-day AFI-Salwan International Throws competition here today.

Hosts India also bagged two Gold but they came in the junior category in which there was no foreign competition. Neelam Jakhar threw a shot put to a distance of 13.08 in her last attempt to create a new meet record.

Poland's Tomasz Majewski and Michal Hodun clinched Gold in shot put and Discus throw events respectively while Chinese women throwers Gu Vyuan and Li Zhang emerged easy winners in Hammer and Javelin throw events respectively For India, Neelam Jhakhar won the gold in Junior Women shot put and Kulwinder Singh topped the field in Junior Shot put.

Majewski's best throw of 19.83, which came off in his second effort fetched him gold, while Hodun threw discus to 57.23 -- third attempt -- for the title.
