Meg govt appoints Lamare president of Consumer Commission Court
Shillong, Sep 29 (UNI) Justice Beryl Lamare, retired Judge of Gauhati High Court, has assumed charge as president of Meghalaya Consumer Redressal Commission.
The other members of the Commission were Ramesh Bawri who was earlier holding the charge of acting president and Amy Rangad.
The state Commission was established under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, for better protection of the interest of the Consumers, Mr Bawri said in a press statement.
He said the Redressal Commission encourages consumers having any grievances either regarding goods or services to approach the Consumer Dispute Redressal Agencies at the district and state level.
In the state, Mr Bawri said there are seven District Forums which were headed by respective Deputy Commissioners having jurisdiction to decide consumer disputes where the consumers where the compensation does not exceed Rs. 20 lakh.
The state commission has jurisdiction to decide the cases valued over Rs. 20 lakh upto Rs. one crore.
