Death toll in suspected Chikungunya outbreak climbs to 46

Alappuzha, Sep 29 (UNI) The death toll in the suspected Chikungunya outbreak in the Cherthala taluk in this district has gone up to 46 with four more deaths being reported today.

Mary Laya (8), daughter of Yesudas of Cherthala south panchayat, died at the Medical College Hospital at Alappuzha.

Narayani (78) of Vayalar Panchayat also died at the Medical College Hospital. Thankappan (67) and Karunakaran (68) from the Pattanakkad panchayat died at the Cherthala taluk hospital.

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy today visited the Cherthala taluk hospital and the house of Mary Laya at Arthunkal.
