CPI remains stationary in August

Shimla, Sep 29 (UNI) The All India Consumer Price Index number for Industrial Workers, on base 2001=100, during August this fiscal remained stationary at 124 points, Labour Bureau sources today said.

The index recorded an increase of four points each in Rangapara-Tezpur, Chhindwara and Vadodara, three points each in three centres of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling and Surat, two points each in 10 centres and one point each in 28 centres during the month.

The sources said the indices decreased by three points each in Labac-Silcar and Quilon centres, two points in Bhilai, one point each in three centres of Madurai, Nasik, and Mundakayam, while remaining stationary in 28 centres.

The increase for four points in Rangapara-Tezpur, was mainly due the rise in the prices of rice, fresh fish and green chillies, while the increase in Chhindwara centre was due to rise in the prices of wheat, vegetable and fruit items and electricity charges, the sources said.

They said the rise in the index number in Vadodara Centre was due to increase in the prices of wheat, groundnut oil, cotton seed oil, green chillies, vegetables and fruits and private tuition fees.

The fall of three points in Labac-Silchar centre was due to decrease in the prices of rice, wheat atta, vegetables and fruits and pan leaf, while the fall of three points in Qulion centre was due to decrease in the price of fresh fish, the sources said.

The Mumbai centre recorded 129 points followed by 126 points at Bangalore, 124 points at Delhi, 123 points each at Ahmedabad and Kolkata and 117 points at Chennai, the sources added.
