Women barbers fast enter second day in Tirumala

Tirupati, Sep 28 (UNI) The indefinite fast launched by women barbers alleging irregularities in the recent recruitment of women barbers in TTD tonsuring centre at Tirumala entered the second day today.

The agitating women barbers, led by Radha Devi, observing indefinite fast in front of TTD administration building here demanded that women from non barber community should be posted.

However, the TTD had appointed 21 women barbers. at its tonsuring centre at Kalyanakatta on Sepember 25 on the first day of annual Brahmotsavam.

After a long struggle by women barbers for appointment in Kalyanakatta barbers, TTD had conducted interviews for 85 candidates on July 18 and selected 21 women barbers.

Ms Radha alleged genuine and qualified poor women candidates were rejected and candidates backed by bigwigs were selected.

She said her objection and protest over the 'qualified candidates' list had been brushed aside by the TTD.
