Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar who was chosen as the chairman of the senior selection committee said that his immediate job would be to watch the Challenger series for the NKP Salve Trophy to be held in Chennai from October 1-4 and interact with the Indian skipper Rahul Dravid.

The veteran of 116 Tests also said that he would go into the selection committee with an open mind and the doors will not be closed to any player.

''The door is not shut on anyone playing domestic cricket,'' said Vengsarkar, a day after being appointed to the post of Chairman of selectors at the Cricket Board's (BCCI) AGM here.

A member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, the stylish righthander known by the nickname of 'Colonel' for his regal appearance at the crease, said that he would try and ensure a fair deal for all the players. ''I would try and ensure that there is no zonal bias whenever the new five-member committee meets and selects a team,'' he said.

Asked about the future course the committee would be adopting, Vengsarkar, the scorer of three Test hundreds on the trot at the famous Lord's ground in England, said there were a number of engagements for the Indian team to guage the players' form ahead of next year's World Cup.

''The Champions Trophy is coming up soon followed by India's tour of South Africa. Then there are the two bilateral series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka at home in January-February,'' he said.
