Vayalar Ravi to inaugurate ICAI conference

Chennai, Sep 28 (UNI) More than 1000 delegates from Saarc countries would participate in the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) International Conference to be held here on September 30.

The conference was organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and would be inaugurated by Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi.

The conference would deliberate on harmonisation of accounting standards in the SAARC region, capacity building of small and medium practitioners, expectations from the professionals in the emrging capital market scenario and the changing paradigm of services in the new order, ICAI President T N Manoharan told reporters here today.

It was being organised part of the three-day SAFA events beginning tomorrow to discuss on issues relating to education, ethics, networking and professional development.

He said the ICAI had launched a new CA curriculum from September 13 this year after the Centre gave its approval.

He said the ICAI counsil had also finalised the preface to the Statement of Accounting Standards for Local bodies to maintain accountability, transparency and operational efficiency.

The Accounting standards would be forwarded to the Union Urban Development Ministry for endorsement and recommendation to the State governments to be adopted by the local bodies.

The ICAI had also finalised a format for financial statements for stock brokers operating in non-corporate form at the request of SEBI.
