Two policemen, woman among 6 killed, 2 hideouts busted in J
Srinagar, Sep 28 (UNI) Two police personnel, a woman and a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant were among six people killed while troops unearthed two hideouts and recovered cache of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.
Constable Ghulam Mohammad, who was injured after Jaish-e-Mohammad militants attacked a police party at Budshah Chowk near here yesterday afternoon, succumbed to his injuries today.
About a dozen police, CRPF and civilians were injured in the blast.
Official sources said unidentified gunmen entered a house at Devar Lolab and shot dead one Haseena last night.
Militants shot at and wounded one Kaleem Ullah, a medical shop owner, near Janglat Mandi Anantnag in south Kashmir today. He was admitted to hospital.
They said a SPO was killed and another wounded when militants attacked a search party at Sangldan in Udhampur district of Jammu region last night. Militants later managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the sources added.
A HM militant was killed in an encounter at Ramban in Doda district last night. The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by militants. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain ultra.
Sources said one person was killed and two policemen were injured when security forces allegedly opened fire on the occupants of a vehicle when they refused to stop the car in south Kashmir district of Anantnag today.
Official sources said one Showkat Ahmad died on the spot and two police personnel, travelling in the vehicle, were injured. The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
Sources said Showkat and police personnel were on way to Anantnag from Pahalgam.
Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards security forces at Kulgam in south Kashmir district of Anantnag last night. However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to four people, including a CRPF jawan. The injured were admitted to a hospital where one Sartaj died this morning.
Panic gripped Pattan in north Kashmir today when militants hurled a hand grenade towards security forces. However, the grenade did not exploded and was later defused by the bomb disposal squad.
Brigadier A K Sen said troops of Vajr Division, guarding the Line of Control, conducted searchs in the villages near the border in Machil and Karnah sectors after a tip off from locals that militants had dumped arms and ammunition there.
He said after several hours of searches, troops finally unearthed the hideouts and recovered war like stores.
Arms and ammunition recovered from these underground hideouts included one Universal Machine Gun with 74 rounds of belted ammunition, six pistols, 71 UBGL grenades, six AK rifles, four wirless sets, 22 hand grenades, two 16 mm mortor bombs, four Rockets, two IEds and more than 1000 rounds of ammunition.
However, no one was arrested as militants had escaped before the raid, he said.
He said militants had stored warlike stores in close proximity of the LoC so that these could be ferried by bakarwals, conduits and couriers to different parts of the valley for attacking security forces and politicians.
Brigadier Sen said recovery of these arms and ammunition was a big success for the security forces and it has dealt a big blow to the nefarious designs of the militants attempting to disrupt the atmosphere of peace and tranquility prevailing in North Kashmir.
