Strike continues, medical services affected

Puducherry, Sep 28 (UNI) The strike called by the Jipmer employees to protest against the granting of autonomous status to the institution entered the 21st day here today disrupting medical services.

The Jipmer employees after conducting talks with Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Lt Governor Mukut Mithi had agreed to call off their stir and resume duty if the administration revoked the suspension and termination orders issued on the employees besides the withdrawal of police cases filed against some of the employees.

However, the Union Health Ministry and Jipmer administration said the employees should join duty first unconditionally following which their demands would be considered.

Meanwhile, the employees as usual assembled in front of the hospital and organised a dharna today.

The Jipmer anti-conversion peoples action committee comprising several political parties had decided to court arrest tomorrow by blocking the road infront of the hospital.
