Sheila appeals for calm, lists steps taken to ameliorate suffering
New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today appealed to citizens to remain calm and not to indulge in violence while enumerating steps that the government has taken to ameliorate hardships of people suffering due to the sealing drive in the capital.
''I appeal to all the citizens to remain calm, patient and not to indulge in violence. Please be assured that Delhi government would leave no stone unturned to obtain redressal in public interest through lawful means in a democratic manner,'' she said in an appeal published in a prominent English daily today.
The state government deeply empathises with the trauma and anxieties being faced by the citizens arising out of the sealing drive carried out in different parts of the city, in pursuances of the directions of the courts, monitoring committees and court commissioners, Ms Dikshit added.
The government was seized of and sensitive to the gravity of the suffering of the affected people and consequently several steps had been taken to ameliorate their hardships through the following legal and administrative measures, she said.
Stating 13 steps, including the affidavit filed by the Centre before the Supreme Court on September 22, taken so far by the government and the civic agencies, the Chief Minister said, ''you will appreciate that Parliament, Union and Delhi governments and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi have taken several steps mentioned to meet your requirements, protect your employment and also needs of the city.''
