Preparations for Durga Puja complete

Agartala, Sep 28 (UNI) Tripura has geared up for the four-day long Durga puja, the main festival of this North-Eastern hilly state.

At least 2,000 community pujas were being held in this state.

With the 'Weather God's' help in the last three days, the puja organisers and the sculptors have completed their work.

The big budget puja organisers, mainly the local clubs, have emphasised on themes like Nikko Park's Bhootbari, Chennai's Tsunami, Haryana's Prince, who fell down in a well, volcano and attack on the World Trade Centre in USA.

Besides, many puja organisers arranged to distribute clothes among the distressed people and distribution of 'Anna Bhog' in this capital city and other parts of the state.

In insurgency-prone areas, where the tribal community could not organise the pujas in fear of militants, were organising the same since the last two years owing to alertness of security forces.

Since the last two years, the militants did not issue any instruction to refrain from arranging the Pujas in the tribal dominated areas, sources informed.

Though Puja starts from today with the Bodhan, a large number of people in this capital city and districts came out of their homes and visiting various big budget pujas last night.

Many puja organisers engaged their own volunteers to maintain peace and to control the rush in front of their respective puja pandals.

Police expects more than 10 lakh viewers in the city during the puja days and to maintain peace had taken a number of steps, including setting up of watch towers.

During the festive season the State Electricity Corporation Limited has assured of sustained power supply.

The Electricity Corporation has decided to import power from Mizoram and Meghalaya to meet the requirement.
