One SPO and a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant killed in Jammu

Jammu, sep 28(UNI) A special police officer(SPO) was killed and other injured during an encounter with the militants in the areas of Simble Morh in Udhampur district here today.

Police sources said that two militants were also injured in the encounter but they managed to escape taking an advantage of dense forest. Search to nab them was on.

The encounter took place during a joint search operation launched by police and army in which SPO, Jagbir Singh sacrified his life and Gulzar Ahmed suffered injuries. He was later shifted to government medical college hospital here for treatment.

In another incident, security forces shot dead a Hizb-ul- Mujahideen (HM) militant Along Dassa Nullah in Doda district yesterday night while he was trying to escape from the ambush laid by them.

Officials today said joint team of army and police on a tip off, had laid a cordon, to nab Roshan Din Gujjar, 65-years-old HM militant, who came to his residence in Ramban, was shot dead when he tried to escape.

One AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 60 rounds were recovered from him.

The slain militant was wanted for his involvement in a series of subversive activities in the district, officials said.
