More investments needed for research studies: Sam Pitroda

Bangalore, Sep 28 (UNI) Knowledge Commission Chairman Sam Pitroda today called for more investments in research studies at the university level as India was at the top in terms of growth and position in the global economy.

Addressing a Knowledge Summit here today, Mr Pitroda said there was a need for students to take up research in human sciences but the latest trend showed they opted for high salaried jobs just after completing their degree courses.

Even the best brains are busy solving the problems of the rich and not of the poor, he said. They are interested in developing latest watches for the rich and solving the problems of high class banks, he added.

''Our scientists with global knowledge should concentrate on solving the problems of the poor and the down trodden to improve the quality of their life,'' he said.

He also called for bringing reforms in public libraries functioning in the country.

Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju in his inaugural address said India was well positioned to grab the opportunities and take up the challenges in the field of knowledge management.
