Man masquerading as policeman nabbed in Mumbai

Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) The police have arrested a man who was masquerading as policeman and collecting donations on bogus documents at Andheri in North West Mumbai.

The Oshiwara police sources today said the accused, Gulabchand Gupta, had printed a receipt book in the name of Maharashtra Sport Club, Mumbai Police and was collecting donations from the parties.

Gupta yesterday went to a private television channel's office, situated off Veera Desai road at Oshiwara in Andheri. There, he met the company manager Vikas Samant and asked him to give some donation to conduct the kabbadi tournaments organised by the Mumbai Police, sources said.

Mr Samant gave him a cheque of Rs 5,000 as donation. He, however, became suspicious when Gupta failed to show him any identification papers. So, Mr Samant informed the police who came and nabbed him.

During the interrogation, it came to light that several cases of cheating were registered against Gupta.

A case of cheating and forgery has been registered against him and further investigations are on, police added.
