Mah govt always cautious in SEZ policy: CM

Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today said the government will give top priority to farmers' interests while allowing developers to develop acquired land for setting up Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

''It is wrong to say that the government was allowing developers free hand in accquiring land belonging to farmers. We ask the developers not to acquire multi crop irrigated land. Similarly,the developers should acquire land at market value and even provide jobs to the families of the project affected'', he said adding that his government would always ensure that the project affected farmers get more than adequate compensation.

Mr Deshmukh was responding to questions at the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) office where he was attending its meeting in his capacity as the Chairman of the Authority.
