Labour laws on coir sector set for amendments: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 28 (UNI) Kerala Cooperation Minister G Sudhakaran today told the Assembly that the labour laws governing the coir sector would be amended with the condition of collecting a cess from coir exporters.
Replying to questions from Mr C K Sadasivan (CPI-M), he said as the government could not collect share from the coir importers since 2003-04, the Coir Welfare Board was incurring a loss of Rs two crore annually.
Mr Balan said an inquiry into the affairs Coir Board had found certain irregularities in the functioning of self-help groups and the distribution of coconut husk and wheel through societies.
If necessary the government would order for a Vigilance inquiry into it, he added.
