Kerala to generate power from non-conventional sources: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 28 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today informed the State Assembly that the Centre and the State governments had drawn up various projects to generate electricity utilising non-conventional sources.
In a written reply he said projects had been drawn up for generating power from wind, solar and bio-wastes.
Mr Balan said a survey conducted by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET), functioning under the Union Non-conventional Energy Ministry, in various parts of the state had found that power could be generated from wind in 16 places and steps were taken jointly by the KSEB and ANERT to set up a four MW project at Ramakkalmedu.
Informing that the government had taken steps to produce 40 MW power from the non-conventional sources, the Minister said that various projects generating 35 MW in private sector were under consideration.
Besides this, various projects for generating 35 MW in private sector were under consideration, he said adding that steps were also taken to produce 40 MW power from the non-conventional sources.
Three projects generating power by processing wastes scientifically were completed, he added.
He said the government proposed to implement three solar projects with a generating capacity of five MW each during the current financial year along with other domestic power projects.
A project to generate about 10-15 MW from waves was completed with the assistance of the National Institute of Ocean Technology, which got the project from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai.
