Jharkhand Government appoints J B Mahapatra as new DGP

Ranchi, Sep 28 (UNI) The newly appointed Director General of Police J B Mahapatra took over the charge at the police headquarters today.

Mr Mahapatra, a 1972-batch IPS officer, was appointed last night as the new DGP after his predecessor V D Ram was transferred as DG, police reforms.

After taking the charge, Mr Mahapatra told UNI his priority would be to maintain law and order and check the extremists.

Mr Mahapatra will be the sixth DGP since the state's creation in 2000.
