Govt to constitute Micro Hydel Power Policy: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 28 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today informed the state Assembly that the government had proposed to constitute a comprehensive Micro Hydel Power Policy in the state.
In a written reply to Mr Babu Palissery (CPI-M) and others, he said a government-level discussion in this reagrd had been started.
Stating that the State Electricity Board's goal was to make a 1,000 MW increase in the generation capacity during the year between 2006 and 2011, the Minister said a survey in this regard had been found the possiblities of setting up of 130 small hydel projects in the state and 12 of them had already been started.
A total investment of Rs 1,446.74 crore was expected to the new projects sanctioned by the KSEB and the capital required for the purpose would be made available from financial insitutions according to the progress of the projects, he added.
Mr Balan said the government was also taking steps to complete the already started projects in a time bound manner and steps would be taken to implement the new small hydel projects on a war foot basis.
