Girl child restored to mother
Hyderabad, Sep 28 (UNI) Nikita, for whose custody her mentally deranged mother and foster parents fought, was handed over to her mother, due to to the intervention of the Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission.
Nazia Bhanu, who was mentally unwell had deserted her girl child in the Borabanda area of the city about two years ago.
The girl was adopted by a childless couple Bhikshapati and Swaroopa. They became very attached to the child whom they named Nikita.
When Nazia who had recovered from her illness asked them to return her child, the foster parents refused, stating they were unsure that she would be in a position to take care of the child.
Nazia then approached the Women's Commission. However the foster parents pleaded Nazia could not take care of the child as she was mentally unsound.
Chairperson of the Women's Commission Ms Mary Ravindranath sent Nazia to the Government Mental Hospital in Erragadda and had her thoroughly examined. As the doctors certified that she was mentally sound, Ms Ravindranath ordered the child be restored to her mother.
The foster parents, said they could not live without the child and would approach the courts.
