Flood-hit farmer commits suicide in Aurangabad
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 28 (UNI) Frustrated by the destruction of standing crop at his farm in the recent flood, a 45-year-old debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his farm at Naregaon near here.
The MIDC-CIDCO police, who first registered a case of a sudden death last evening, today confirmed it was suicide after receipt of provisional medical report from the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Assistant Commissioner of police (CIDCO Division) Navin Chandra Reddy told UNI the case is being comprehensively investigated.
Naib Tehsildar Chandrakant Shelke, however, confirmed the incident and said he met the bereaved family of Dada Sheikh Rahim and visited the farm where, standing crops of 'Soyabean' and 'Toor' were found damaged.
Rahim, who stayed with his family at Pisadevi, went to his farm at Naregaon yesterday morning. On finding the mature crops destroyed by the devastating flood, allegedly commited suicide.
Rahim's relative found him hanging in the farm in the afternoon, sources said.
His son Afroz said his father had to repay a loan of Rs 4,000 he had taken from a development credit society in 1996.
