Five held for auctioning Panchayat President's post

Chennai, Sep 28 (UNI) Police have registered criminal cases against five people, including a woman, and arrested four of them for trying to auction a Panchayat President post for a sum of Rs 1.56 lakh at Morapur Panchayat Union in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu.

An official release made available to the media here said, on the orders of District Collector Pankajkumar Bansal, police registered cases against five people under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Representation of People's Act.

While four have been arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial custody, S Meena (35) was absconding, the release added.
