Mysore, Sep 28 (UNI) Doordarshan has declined to live telecast the world famous Mysore Dasara procession, scheduled to be held here on October two.

In a letter addressed to the Karnataka Government, which was released to media here today, its Bangalore Kendra Director, Mahesh Joshi said the Doordarshan was not in a position to cover the event live due to the 'non-cooperation' of city police Commissioner, Praveen Sood and non-availability of the required number of passes to accommodate its personnel.

''We are unable to cover the procession live, which we regret...

I am very sorry to state that we are staying out of this year's Dasara at the city of palaces and wish the function success under your able leadership,'' he said.

Mr Joshi said the kendra had been writing letters in this regard to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The Chief Minister and district in-charge Minister were aware of the organisational requirements since it had covered several Government functions live, he added.

He said Doordarshan had been doing live coverage of the Dasara procession for the past one and a half decades, keeping in view its obligation for preserving and promoting the culture of the land.

However, it was a known fact that the infrastructural requirements of Doordarshan were also more because of the magnitude of service it was offering. Taking the procession live to 59 countries and other parts of the country it needed an outside broadcast van and the digital satellite news gatherng team, which essentially require 20 personnel. In addition, six to nine cameramen and others were needed for technical and administrative coordination, he explained.
