Devotees witness procession of Lord Malappaswamy

Tirumala, Sep 28 (UNI) About 50,000 devotees today witnessed the procession carrying the deity of Lord Malayappaswamy atop the 'Kalpavrisksha Vahanam around the four-mada streets here on the fourth day of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam of Lord Venkateswara.

'Unjal seva,' the sacred garlands received from goddess Sri Andal of Srivilliputhur in Tamil Nadu, was taken out in procession from the 'pedda jeeyangar mutt' to the temple through four mada streets in the evening.

The garlands would be adorned on Malayappa varu tomorrow, when he would be seated on 'garuda vahanam during the garuda seva, the highlight of the nine-day event. The deity would be taken out in a procession on 'Sarva Bhoopala vahanam' in the night.

Justice Raghavan of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, TTD Trust Board Chairman B Karunakar Reddy, TTD Executive Officer APVN Sharma and other officials participated in the procession.

A report from Tirumala said 'Devasthana Jeer' has presented the traditional umbrella to the famous Venkateswara Swamy temple on behalf of the Chennai-based Hindu Dharma Samithi Trust(HDST) today. Earlier, the Umbrella was handed over to the Jeer, after performing the puja at Padmavathi Ammavari temple in Tiruchanur near here in the morning.

The procession was taken around the four mada streets in Tirumala and later presented to the TTD Chairman B Karunakara Reddy and Executive Officer APVN Sarma.
