Belgaum, Sep 28 (UNI) Softening its stand on over 2,000 schools that had violated the State's language policy, the Karnataka Government today allowed the erring schools to continue till the end of the current academic year.

Announcing this in the State Legislative Council here today, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said the decision to continue the recognition till the end of this academic year was taken, considering the plight of the students and parents.

The Minister said the Government had earlier decided to derecognise 2,111 schools started after 1994, which taught in English despite getting recognition for running the schools in Kannada medium. In all, 2,70,000 students would be affected and the Government proposed to accommodate them in nearby Government schools. But, due to pressure from all quarters that the students be allowed to continue in the same school till the end of the academic year, the Government had decided to grant the permission.

Coming down heavily on the erring schools, he said the Government would never withdraw its order of derecognition, but only allowed the students to continue education till the end of the current academic year.
