ISLAMABAD, Sep 28 (Reuters) Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been cleared of ball tampering by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan Cricket Board operations director Abbas Zaidi said today.

''I can confirm Inzamam has been cleared of the ball-tampering charges,'' Zaidi told Reuters from Karachi.

Zaidi said Inzamam had been charged with bringing the game into disrepute but said it was not yet known what the penalty would be.

Pakistan forfeited the fourth test against England at The Oval last month when they refused to take the field after tea on the fourth day following a five-run penalty for alleged ball tampering.

Inzamam was charged with ball tampering and bringing the game into disrepute at a two-day ICC code of conduct hearing at The Oval which concluded today.
