Couple attempts suicide outside Dy CM's official residence; arrested

Mumbai, Sep 28 (UNI) The police have arrested a couple for allegedly trying to commit suicide outside 'Chitrakut', the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil at south Mumbai late last night.

The couple, identified as Sardarilal Upal (60) and his wife Ms Nilam Upal (51), residents of Guru Tegbahadur Nagar (GTB) in North Central Mumbai, had gone to Patil's official residence at about 2245 hours last night to complain that their tenant was refusing to vacate the room, police said here today.

When the security guard Arun Bhaskar Sawant (45) manning Patil's residence refused to let the couple meet the Deputy Chief Minister, they threatened to commit suicide.

On closer inspection, police officials found two litres of kerosene from their possession. The security guard then handed them over to Malabar Hill police station.

A case of attempt to suicide has been registered against the couple.
