Congress leader attacked, four arrested

Kendrapada, Sep 28 (UNI) The Jagatpur police today arrested four persons on the charges of attacking Chairman of All India Congress Committee(AICC) OBC cell Kanhu Lenka.

Mr Lenka was attacked near Gopinathpur bazar while he was returning to Cuttack on the Pattamundai canal road after attending the 26th death anniversary function of freedom fighter Golakha Bihari Nayak at Alipur village on last Wednesday.

According to police the arrested persons were identified as Padmanav Samal, Tuna Dutta, Ajmal Khan and Aloka Nath. All of them were booked under sections of the IPC.

They were remanded to jail custody after their bail petitions were rejected by the Salepur First Class Judicial Magistrate According to the Jagatpur police station officer-in-charge the accused stopped the vehicle of the former Union Minister and dragged out Mr Lenka from the vehicle and manhandled.

They also damaged the vehicle.

They also attacked six supporters of the former Union Minister, who were with him in the vehicle. Later, the attackers managed to flee from the spot when the locals came for the rescue of the former Union Minister.
