Coir Labour Laws to be amended: Minister
Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 28 (UNI) Kerala Cooperation Minister G Sudhakaran today told the Assembly that the labour laws governing the coir sector would be amended with condition of collecting a cess from coir exporters.
Replying to questions by Mr C K Sadasivan (CPI-M), he said as the government could not collect share from the coir importers since 2003-04 the Coir Welfare Board was incurring a loss of Rs two crore annually.
Mr Balan said an inquiry in the Coir Board had found certain irregularities in the functioning of self-help group and the distribution of coconut husk and wheel through societies.
If necessary the government would order for a Vigilance inquiry into it, he added.
