BJP seeks President's intervention in solving demolition issue

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) Delhi BJP President Dr Harsh Vardhan today requested President A P J Abdul Kalam to convene a joint session of Parliament to protect the interests of Delhiites on the demolition and sealing issue.

In a letter to the President, Dr Vardhan said keeping in view the seriousness of the matter, the Constitution be amended on the pattern of Shahbano case, while informing him that four traders had already committed suicide due to the anti-people, anti-traders, anti-employment drive of the government through sealings and demolitions in the Capital.

Presently, one crore people, out of a population of 1.5 crore in Delhi, are attached to various trades and industries directly or indirectly and more than five lakh retail shops are being run in residential areas affecting the livelihood of about 50 lakh people, said the letter.

Dr Harsh Vardhan also requested the President that he may initiate to protect the interests, livelihood and shelters of nearly 1.5 crore Delhiites and convene a joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to provide respectable relief to the affected.
