BJP panel on SEZs to submit report in 15 days: Venkaiah

Chennai, Sep 28: A five-member committee constituted by the BJP to go into the issue of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and formulate a policy to guide the party will come out with its report in 15 days, Party Senior Leader M Venkaiah Naidu said today.

Mr Naidu, who was heading the committee, said the first meeting would be held in New Delhi on October three and four.

The commission would make an in-depth study on the experience so far and take the views of BJP-ruled states, industry people, farmers' representatives and agricultural scientists.

The views of Finance and Commerce Ministries would also be taken into consideration, he told a press conference here.

Mr Naidu said the BJP in principle supported establishing SEZs as it would strengthen economy, attract investments and generate employment opportunities.

At the same time, the Committee would also study how to make farmers as partners and get them monetary compensation for loss of land on par with market value, he added.

On the agreement between India and Pakistan to set up joint mechanism for monitoring terrorism, Mr Naidu said 'India had fallen into Pakistan's trap' as it would give foothold to the neighbouring country's intelligence agencies in Jammu and Kashmir.

Stating the BJP was not in favour of resuming dialogue with Pakistan, he said the party was planning a natio-nwide campaign to form a public opinion and exert pressure on the Centre not to go ahead with talks with Pakistan.
