B'lore unwired to be a reality soon: K'taka IT Secy

Bangalore, Sep 28: Bangalore unwired, a project to provide Wireless internet connectivity to the entire city using latest wimax technology will be a reality within a year, Karnataka Principal Secretary for IT and BT Anup K Pujari said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said five out of 13 bidders have already been shortlisted by a committee headed by Prof S Sadagopan, heading the International Institute Information Technology.

Under the Bangalore-unwired project any person could tap internet from any corner of the city using wireless mode.

Dr Pujari said request for proposal would be sent to these five companies out of which two would be further shortlisted.

He said before the start of the Nineth edition of Bangalore IT.in commencing on October 27 a pilot wireless internet facility would be functional.

Replying to a question he said the Vision Group on IT which would be headed by Former Infosys Chairman N R Narayanamurthy had not met so far. Mr Murthy had held initial talks with senior officers where he shared his ideas. He had stated that the government could not discourage people from dreaming. Poeple hope the government would implement these dreams. But it should be realised that the government could not do everything.
