Kolkata, Sep 28 (UNI) Low cost carrier Air Deccan today announced the launch of new flights from Kolkata to Lilabari (via Guwahati).

The new flight would commence operations from October 30. A 42 seater ATR-42 aircraft would be deployed on this route. The bookings for the new flight would open on September 29 according to an Air Deccan release.

Located in upper Assam around 5 kilometers from the holy city of Malinithan, Lilabari is regarded as the gateway to India's land of the rising sun, Arunachal Pradesh and serves as an important transit point for people travelling to Assam as well as for those continuing their journey further to the East.

By including Lilabari in its network, Air Deccan has become the only airline providing direct service from Kolkata to Lilabari. The only other air link to Lilabari from Kolkata is provided by Indian Airlines, which requires passengers to deplane at Guwahati and then board a new flight to continue their journey to Lilabari taking up more than 6 hours. The new air link provided by Air Deccan would link Kolkata to Lilabari in just 2 hours 50 minutes, the release said.

Air Deccan already connects Agartala, Aizawl, Baghdogra, Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Silchar in the North East with Kolkata and has announced the launch of flights to Imphal in October 2006.
