Additional wheat allocation for Above Poverty Line families

New Delhi, Sep 28 (UNI) The Center has allocated one lakh tonne of wheat as additional supply for the month of September 2006 on request from States and Union Territories.

It is expected that this will check price rise and help beneficiaries to meet the increased requirement of foodgrains during the festival season.

During the month of August, an adhoc additional allocation of one lakh tonne of wheat was made at the rates applicable for Above Poverty Line (APL) families keeping in view the demand from States and UTs and the current festival season.

The State Governments/UT administrations have been requested to keep strict vigilance to ensure that APL wheat allocation is distributed as per the procedure detailed under TPDS to the ration cardholders through FPS network so that no leakage/diversion of foodgrains take place, an official release said today.
