A record number of 9.55 lakh rural students participate in IT Quiz

Bangalore, Sep 28 (UNI) A record number of 9.55 lakh students from rural areas of Karnataka participated in the Rural IT Quiz conducted by the IT and BT department as a fore runner to the Bangalore IT.In this year.

The Quiz, partnered by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), had gone even to sub divisional centres and each District would hold a second round.

Announcing this at a press conference here, Karnataka Principal Secretary for IT and BT Anup K Pujari said that last year the total number of students who had participated in the Quiz was only 65,000.

TCS Vice president N G Subramaniam who is heading the Bangalore operations said that a study on the performance of the students indicated that students in Udupi had performed much better than even those in urban cities.

After the District rounds 200 teams would be picked up for regional rounds from which six would participate in the state level Quiz to be held on October 29 during the Bangalore IT.In. The winner would walk away with a total prize money of Rs 80,000, he added.

TCS had brought out a Quiz book on IT which was released at the press conference.
