Woman dupes banks, jewellers of 7 lakh in A'bad
Aurangabad, Sep 27: A 30-year-old woman duped city jewellers and 15-various banks, most of them nationalised in the city and district for over Rs Seven lakh.
The woman -- Ms Megha Shyam Joshi --, a resident of Shivajinagar locality of the city, had allegedly defrauded banks and individuals either by defaulting on loans and bearer cheques or posing herself as an insurance agent.
The fraud was revealed when she was arrested yesterday by the city chowk police following a complaint of cheating filed against her by three city jewellers.
Police Inspector James Ambildhage at the City Chowk Police station told UNI here today that from the initial information they had gathered till now from the investigations, the woman had cheated individuals and banks for about Rs Seven lakh, but the figure may go up as and when individuals will come forward with further complaints.
Police have also seized credit cards from the woman and suspects that she might have made heavy purchasing over these cards and the same will only be known after the investigation, the police sources said.
The woman has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including section 420, the police sources said.
A local court here yesterday remanded the woman to two days police custody, the police said.
