Singur protestors released by High Court
Kolkata, Sep 27 (UNI) About 72 people, arrested on Tuesday for demonstrating at Singur in Hoogly district in protest against handing over the agricultural land to TATA group, were freed by Calcutta High Court today.
A division bench, presided by justice D P Sengupta, granted bail to them after opposition Trinamool Congress moved an application today.
Earlier the bail plea for these people was rejected by a lower court yesterday.
These 72 people include 45 injured, who were still admitted to different hospitals in the city.
They were arrested while protesting distribution of huge arable land to TATA group for setting up a car manufacturing factory there.
Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee was also injured while police used lathies to disperse protesters.
