Scientist says CSIR lacks interest on global cooperation
Hyderabad, Sep 26 (UNI) Former Head of International Scientific Collaboration of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) K N Johry today said there was 'lack of interest at policy level in the CSIR on international cooperation.' Delivering the Foundation Day lecture of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) on 'CSIR and its international collaborations' here, Mr Johry said the council's international programmes suffered with many of them terminated due to political changes and bureaucracy.
He called upon research and development directors of various organisations to take the issue seriously and hold discussions with the CSIR Director General and others to revive the bilateral programmes.
Pointing out to lack of personal contacts between the CISR and foreign scientists, Mr Johry said knowledge based on Science and Technology was critically important for sustaining economic growth in the present century.
''Science and Technology cooperation has, so far, mainly taken place among developed countries which can achieve useful trade offs under the principle of mutual benefits.
Cooperation between developed and developing countries has been limited because the latter have little or no complementary assets to attract partners from developed countries,'' he observed.
