Randhawa to carry tri-colour in WGC-American Express Championship
New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Buoyed after a successful rookie season on the European Tour, seasond pro Jyoti Randhawa will be eager to make an impression in this week's World Golf Championships-American Express Championship in England which will be a great opportunity for Asian stars to sparkle against the global's elite.
The continental hopes would rest on the asian trio of Thaworn Wiratchant and his Thai compatriot Thongchai Jaidee bnesides Randhawa in the star-studded 7.5 million dollar event at The Grove in Hertfordshire.
Before leaving for America, Randhawa had told UNI that he was looking forward to the event where he would be sharing the field with Tiger Woods and said his form taking off again, he was hoping for the best.
''I think by my standard, I had a rather mediocre season so far.
But the best part is I'm playing well again and lets' see what the remainder of the season has in store.
''I'm going to play in the World Golf Championship and you have people like Tiger Woods there. But it's not a question of being intimidated or not. I think I'm playing very well now and it would be a tough comeptition,'' he said.
Randhawa had finished tied 54th in the 2003 American Express Championship.
And Randhawa hopes his best chances in the European Tour would come next year.
''I learnt a lot in my first year on the European Tour and have secured next year's card as well. I hope my best comes next year,'' said the 2002 Asian number one player.
Apart from defending champion Tiger Woods, other stars to grace the event include 11 members of the victorious European Ryder Cup team, including Colin Montgomerie, Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia and Paul Casey.
Vijay Singh of Fiji, Ernie Els of South Africa and Australian Adam Scott will also lend their presence in the event.
