Flood relief: K'taka Govt to take all-party delegation to Centre
Belgaum, Sep 26 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will take an all-party delegation to the Centre, demanding special grants for permanent shifting of the flood-prone villages of Krishna basin districts and drought relief works in the State, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced in the Assembly today.
Presenting the supplementary estimates for Rs 1,408 crore, he said the delegation would meet the Prime Minister and the Union Agriculture Minister. The State Government had prepared an action plan to rehabilitate the flood-prone villages in five Northern Karnataka districts severely affected by the recent floods.
Mr Yediyurappa said the State Government had proposed to release an additional grant of Rs 64 crore to find a permanent solution to the problem and decided to approach the Centre too for the purpose.
The State would also urge the Centre to release three lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains for taking up drought relief works, he added.
