Court TO decide Tarani's fate tomorrow

Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) The fate of yet another aide of prime absconding accused Tiger Memon of the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts will be decided tomorrow when a TADA court would give its verdict on Mushtaq Tarani, charged with planting an RDX-laden bag in a city hotel, causing injuries to three people and damaging property worth over Rs two crore on March 12, 1993.

Tarani is also charged with planting an RDX-laden scooter at Shaikh Memon Street in south Mumbai which, however, did not explode.

He is also accused of having participated in a conspiracy meeting at hotel Taj Mahal here and for selecting targets of India's worst terror attack such as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the country's commercial and entertainment capital.

The Taj Mahal meeting was allegedly convened by Tiger Memon and besides Tarani, it was also attended by Javed Chikana, also absconding, and an accused-turned-approver.

While the BSE building, financial nerve centre of the city, was successfully hit by attackers, they failed to target Shiv Sena Corporators in BMC as they fled mid-way, abandoning weapons in a car at Worli in central Mumbai.

Tarani is accused of exploding an RDX-laden bag in room number 3078 of hotel Centeur in suburban Juhu, wounding three people and damaging property worth Rs 2.10 crore.

He is charged with aiding, abetting and commiting terrorist acts under sections 3 (3) and 3(2)(i) of TADA (P) Act as also under section 3 and 4(a)(b) of Explosive Substances Act, and under sections 120-b, 307,324, 435 and 436 of the Indian Penal Code.
