Commercial taxes collection in K'taka records about 25 pc growth

Belgaum, Sep 26 (UNI) Karnataka has recorded 24.93 per cent growth in commercial tax collections till August end this year by netting Rs 5,589 crore as against Rs 4,474 crore collected during the last corresponding period, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed the Legislative Council today.

Tabling the first installment of supplementary estimates, he said that under state excise, Rs 1,713.29 crore was collected compared to Rs 1,250 crore during the same period last year, registering 36.98 per cent growth.

Mr Yediyurappa, who also held the finance portfolio, said Rs 540 crore was collected as motor vehicle tax till August end this year as against Rs 439 crore in the period last year, registering 20.25 per cent growth. Stamp duty and registration fetched the Government Rs 1412.03 crore as against Rs 813.92 crore last year.

Revenue collections to the tune of Rs 1,750 crore till August end this year recorded a growth rate of 32.16 per cent, he added.
