Tada Court to decide fate of 8 blast accused tomorrow

Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) The designated Tada Court will decide tomorrow the fate of eight accused, all suspended police personnel,who have been accused of accepting bribes for allowing the smuggling of arms and ammunition which caused the 1993 blasts.

Suspended police sub-inspector Vijay Krishnaji Patil, police constables Ramesh Mali, Pandrinath Mahadi, Manohar More, Krishna Mukal, Krishna Pingle, Shrikrishna Pashilkar and Ashok Muneshwar, all charged under the Tada Act were posted at Shrivardhan police station in January 1993. They allegedly aided and abetted terrorists by allowing them to smuggle arms and ammunition into India brought for the purpose of serial blasts.

According to the charges, on January 9,1993 at Ghondgharphata, they had allowed the smuggling of arms and ammunition while accepting bribe of Rs seven lakhs. They along with landing agent Uttam Gotdar and suspended custom inspector Gurav had allegedly affiliated the commission of terrorist act.

All are charged under 3(3) of Tada (prevention) Act, 1987, and if found guilty, maybe given punishment ranging from five years to life sentence.
