Overstay in Govt bungalows: Notice issued to former-Minister

Bangalore, Sep 25 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today ordered issuance of notices to the State Government and former Minister Roshan Baig on a public interest litigation (PIL) regarding the Congress leader overstaying in a Government residential bungalow.

Admitting the petition filed by city resident T S Krishna Bhat, Chief Justice Cyraic Joseph and Justice Ajit J Gunjal asked the Government to file within three weeks a list of persons overstaying in Government premises despite demitting public offices and the action taken to prevent such misuse.

The petitioner submitted that Mr Baig had not vacated the residential bungalow in RMV II Stage Sadashivanagar here inspite of several notices even though he had demitted his Ministerial post.

The said residential premises had now been allotted to Lok Ayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde. The overstayers were liable to pay penal rent for the period of overstay, he contended, seeking a direction to the Government to take steps to evict such people and make the accommodation available to the allottees.
