Families evacuated to safer places following heavy rain
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 25 (UNI) As many as 135 families in the district were evacuated to safer places as low-lying areas submerged due to heavy rainfall that lashed city and suburbs during the last 24 hours.
The families were accommodated in nine camps in the district, a release from the control room functioning under the Land Revenue Commissioner today said.
Several houses were damaged as the South-West Monsoon revived all over the state after few days. Five houses were damaged in Thiruvananthapuram district, 15 in Kollam, 8 in Pathanamthitta, five in Palakkad and six in Kasaragod causing an estimated loss of about Rs 1.80 lakh, the release said.
The search for a fisherman, who fell into the sea from a boat while fishing off Sakthikulangara in Kollam district, was on.
